If there are holes in your photographic knowledge, if you get confused by f-stop, aperture, iso, focal length and shutter speed, or if you feel that you could be in better control of your camera, this workshop is for you.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, or have some experience but find you aren’t getting the images you want, then making sure you’ve got the basics covered will help open up opportunities for you.
Every photograph starts with the balancing of an equation. If you can’t see the light and find the solution to the problem, you’ll only get so far with your pictures. Taking the basics and making them second nature should be your goal.
We’ll cover exposure, camera settings, autofocus settings and the basics of composition to make sure that your foundations are as firm as possible on which you can build your advanced, specific knowledge for the subjects you wish to tackle.

Photography can seem an elusive, nebulous undertaking. Let Dave Newton demystify it with this back to basics approach on learning to be in control of your camera rather than letting the camera control you.

- Module 1
- Seeing the light - we'll look at light and see how the camera captures it, including the settings used to ensure you get just the right amount in your pictures.
- Module 2
- Advanced camera settings - once you've got the light sorted, you need to get control of the camera so you make the pictures, not the camera.
- Module 3
- Although light is key, brushing up on the basics of composition will ensure your subject is in the right place and you're directing the viewer to see the key things within the frame.
